City of San Angelo
The City of San Angelo operates under the City Manager/City Council form of government. The Council is comprised of the mayor and six, single-member district councilpersons. Serving two-year terms, half the council and mayor are elected in odd years, while the other half of the council are elected in even years.
Tom Green County
Tom Green County, covering 1,500 square miles, is governed by a County Judge/County Commissioner's form of government. The Commissioner's Court is comprised of 4 commissioners, each representing one precinct, and the judge represents the entire county. All are elected for 4 years. Primary responsibilities are road and bridge maintenance, rural law enforcement, and the operation of the city/county jail.
